In 2015 the “garden line” came into life: decorative accents and accessories for outdoor spaces using different materials, first and foremost the weathering steel (COR-TEN). The COR-TEN is a particular alloy with both high yield and ultimate tensile strength, containing copper, chromium and phosphorus. The name is short for “corrosion resistance” (COR) and “tensile strength” (TEN). Resistance to atmospheric corrosion is about 5 to 8-foald higher compared to other carbon steels.
COR-TEN forms a stable rust-like appearance if exposed to the weather for several years. The oxidation process causes a uniform and resistant layer to form on its slightly thinner surface and this patina blocks the progressive spread of corrosion allowing the products to remain unaltered for many years and their periodic maintenance to be almost unnecessary. It is a natural, environmentally friendly, 100% recyclable material.
The pleasant brown color that changes its hues during the years and in different outdoor environments, gives the product those unique and exclusive characteristics that explain why this material is widely used in architecture to create buildings, sculptures and monuments, and has several industrial applications (scaffolding, bridges, guardrails,…).
